Top 7 pizzerias in Melbourne for National Pizza Day

National Pizza Day? Yes, you heard right – an entire day dedicated to delicious carbs! But frankly, any excuse to eat Pizza will do.

Whether you prefer American style slices, Italian woodfire, sit in or takeaway – we’ve listed our top 7 pizzerias in Melbourne.

Leonardo’s Pizza Palace

In a historical Carlton corner position which originally opened Da Salvatore Pizza by the Metre in 1959, Leonardo’s Pizza Palace is brought to you by the people behind Leonard’s House of Love and Ramblr.

Our recommendation: Pork & Fennel Sausage Pizza with a side of Fried Mozzeralla Sticks.

Shop 225

Classic wood fired pizza made from 72-hour dough and stone milled flour. It was late 2016 when Lorenzo Tron and Roberto Davoli opened their humble pizzeria, Shop225, in Pascoe Vale South. The suburban pizzeria has already attracted a cult following of locals and people across town with its simple Italian ethos, vegan and gluten free offering.

Our recommendation: 4 Formaggi pizza (Fior di latte, smoked scamorza, gorgonzola and grana padano).

Trendy, bare-bones Italian pizzeria dishing up thin-crust pizza, authentic house made pasta, focaccia and wine on Little Bourke Street in the CBD.
Our recommendation: Fior di latte, tomato salsa, Berkshire sausage, mascarpone, Gorgonzola cheese & prosciutto di parama.

Takeaway Pizza

This Preston insitute is a two-in-one concept from the people who brought us Dexter – a takeaway pizza shop serving delicious American style pizza for pick-up or delivery and a friendly neighbourhood cocktail bar serving late night slices.

Our recommendation: Order the Mortadella & Honey pizza and take a seat outside.

400 Gradi

Authentic Neapolitan cuisine with a hint of Melbourne, that’s 400 Gradi. Home to the award-winning margherita pizza and oh-so-sweet pizze dolce.

Our recommendation: The Golden Marghertita. Their award winning pizza has turned gold. Think gold crust, gold basil, gold mozzarella and more gold.

Santoni

Santoni’s 3-level restaurant in Hawthorn, which has a rooftop bar, brings authentic italian cuisine & pizza with great views.
Our recommendation: Caramelised Onion (Caramelised onion, goats cheese, mozzarella, rocket & balsamic glaze).

Woodfire Pizzeria & Cucina has been part of Ivanhoe’s dining and lifestyle culture since 1999. From its humble beginnings at 91 Upper Heidelberg Road, it underwent a massive change in October 2016. Finding its new home at the state-of-the-art building located at 199 Upper Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe. Using premium locally sourced and Italian ingredients that compliment an age-old Neapolitan recipe, the end result is an artisan-style wood-fired pizza that is truly something indescribable.

Our recommendation: Basil and Friends (name of pizza) – Basil pesto, fior di latte, pork sausage, eggplant, chili and fresh basil
