Our connection with the local communities we serve runs deep within our company’s culture, and we are active and passionate about delivering meaningful responses to the needs of worthwhile causes. The Nelson Alexander Charitable Foundation was established in 2005 to provide a platform for staff participation in community service and since its inception has donated over $3 million to individuals, charities and groups within our local community.
Staff involvement
The Foundation is run by a committee of employees who encourage all staff to be proactive in their involvement, identifying particular causes and organisations that they wish to support. In addition Nelson Alexander staff are granted two days paid leave per year to participate in volunteer programs of their choice. test
Fundraising
Our major annual fundraiser is Foundation Day, whereby each of our offices donates the professional fee from one of their auctions to their chosen local charity. In addition to Foundation Day, The Charitable Foundation raises funds as a fixed dollar amount from each Nelson Alexander sale.
Application for funding
The Foundation operates a two tiered grants programme, which distributes in the vicinity of $350,000 per annum.
Small monthly grants: applications accepted Feb – Oct, each year for grants in the vicinity of $500 – $1,500.
Important information regarding Foundation Day 2020 - 29th February.
We’ve made the decision that this year, all funds raised from our major annual fundraiser, Foundation Day; which would normally be distributed to local groups operating within our business footprint, will instead be donated to organisations working within the Victorian communities directly affected by the bushfires.
Information about these recipients will be made available once finalised.
Foundation Day grants: applications closed for 2020. Applications normally open 01 Feb and close 01 Apr, each year for grants in the vicinity of $5,000 – $30,000.
Industry recognition
The Foundation has won numerous awards – including the 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2009, 2008 and 2007 Real Estate Institute of Victoria Community Service Award along with being recognised nationally in the same category by the Real Estate Institute of Australia in 2015, 2014, 2010 and 2008.
