Nelson Alexander Foundation Day Results – 2020
Nelson Alexander’s Foundation Day held on the 29th February, was a resounding success, with $252,305 raised to support organisations working on the rebuild of rural Victoria.
Nelson Alexander’s Charitable Foundation was formed in 2005 and has been our way to give back to our communities; the communities we call home. However, right across Australia there are many communities that have been severely affected by this year’s bushfires, and we, like the rest of the world, feel for those impacted by this devastation.
Nelson Alexander’s Foundation Day was a resounding success.
So this year, we made the decision that all funds raised from our major annual fundraiser, Foundation Day; whereby each of our offices donates the professional fee from one of their auctions, would be donated to the following organisations working to rebuild the Victorian communities directly affected by the bushfires.
The selected charities to benefit from Foundation Day funds are:
Since 2006, Need For Feed has been supporting communities and farmers across Victoria, as the major supplier of emergency fodder and transport. They raise funds to support farmers in fire, drought and flood affected areas as they struggle to rebuild properties and livelihoods in times of crisis and natural events.
FOUNDATION FOR RURAL & REGIONAL RENEWAL (FRRR)
FRRR provides grants to local not-for-profit groups for community-led projects that address the most pressing needs that emerge 12-18 months after a disaster event.
We will be directing our Foundation Day funds to the FRRR Disaster Resilience and Recovery Fund. Grants from the fund will be able to support local leaders to implement what they need in their community.
This could be support for fatigued volunteer leaders, repairing vital community infrastructure or ensuring psychological support is available when it’s most needed.
INTO OUR HANDS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION
Following the devastation of Black Saturday in 2009, Into Our Hands Community Foundation has been working across north east Victoria to provide relief and recovery funds. The Foundation was set up specifically to aid recovery from bushfire and has local grant processes in place with partner organisations to support community recovery over the long term.
The modern Men’s Shed is an updated version of the shed in the backyard that has long been a part of Australian culture.
The Men’s Shed movement has become one of the most powerful tools in addressing health and wellbeing and helping men become valued and productive members of their community.
Most men are reluctant to talk about their emotions and that means that they usually don’t ask for help. Due to this, many men suffer from isolation, loneliness and depression.
A Men’s Shed provides a safe environment where men can find support in an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship.
We will be directly supporting the Men’s Sheds located in Orbost, Mallacoota, Corryong and Myrtleford.
THE COUNTRY WOMEN’S ASSOCIATION VIC (CWA)
The CWA has over ninety years of experience in supporting families and communities through hard times.
The association is an organisation of women supporting women, children and families right across Victoria. It’s a vibrant, self-funded, volunteer philanthropic organisation with a focus on friendship, personal development and advocacy.
They encourage members to support each other, advocate on community issues, sustainable development and the protection of the environment.
Wildlife Victoria is a not-for-profit charity connecting sick, injured and orphaned native wildlife in Victoria.
With no government funding, they rely entirely on the generosity of the community to continue their vital work to help Australian wildlife.
Our donation to Wildlife Victoria’s bushfire appeal will be distributed to wildlife shelters and carers to help rebuild enclosures and equipment that they have lost in the fires, so that they can continue their lifesaving work. It will support those that are struggling to cope with the enormous number of animals that require care both now and in the future.
