Nelson Alexander Charitable Foundation 2019 Round Up

Nelson Alexander’s community service initiative was founded in 2005 by the creation of the Nelson Alexander Charitable Foundation, and since its inception, has proudly distributed over $3.1 million into our local communities.

The Foundation generates funding via a set amount from each Nelson Alexander sale, along with our major annual fundraiser Foundation Day, where each of our seventeen offices donates the professional fee from one of their auctions.

In 2019, we have distributed 134 grants, totalling $360,000.

These funds have assisted individuals and charities supporting children, teenagers and adults. It has helped people suffering from mental illness, homelessness, physical disabilities and those fleeing family violence. It has supported people in challenging times, and helped fledging groups establish themselves in our local communities.

The Foundation not only assists with monetary grants but also provides Nelson Alexander staff with the platform and incentive to get involved in their local community, by co-ordinating a volunteer programme that includes preparing meals at food rescue organisation, Fareshare or serving breakfast to the disadvantaged community who gather at St Mary’s House of Welcome, in Fitzroy. We understand and appreciate the importance of volunteering, and offer all staff 2 days paid leave per year to get involved in community service.

In the lead up to Christmas, we have been involved in collecting gifts to donate to the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency and Pets of the Homeless, as well as sorting gifts at The Royal Children’s Hospital for those patients who remain in hospital on Christmas Day.

In addition to these contributions, we’ve given a significant number of small grants to organisations that work with those in our communities, who may not experience the joy of the festive holiday season.

The Asylum Seekers Resource Centre received $3,000 of groceries to add to their foodbank in Footscray. We purchased gifts for children in out of home care through Berry St and for the 50 families who will be residing at Ronald McDonald House in Parkville on Christmas Eve, they will receive a $50 Coles/Myer voucher courtesy of The Foundation.

Safe Steps, who operate a 24-hour family violence response centre and Fareshare who create 1.3 million meals a year to distribute to Victorians experiencing food insecurity, each received a $3,000 donation.

The belief that people have a responsibility to provide support for one another remains a cornerstone philosophy of our business, we are not just a real estate business, leaving at the end of business hours. The Foundation is an intrinsic part of our community loyalty and a strong expression of our corporate values of family, generosity, passion, respect and leadership.
